Casualty’s Melanie Hill endured a “painful” split from her first husband before going on to marry again 20 years later.The 62-year-old joined the BBC medical drama earlier this year as no-nonsense clinical nurse manager Siobhan MacKenzie.

She will also be recognised as Hazel Redfern in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Cathy Matthews in Coronation Street for seven years and then as Avril Kent in Emmerdale.

But it isn’t just her on-screen roles that have piqued fans’ interest as Melanie has gone through some difficult times away from the cameras.

A particularly challenging time for the actress was when she parted ways with her first husband actor Sean Bean.
