An inquest has opened in to the death of a teenager who died at Salford Quays. The body of Kalen Waugh, 16, was recovered from the water in the evening of July 16.
Police coroner's officer Julian Hyde told Bolton Coroner's Court : “Kalen had got into difficulties whilst swimming in Salford Quays.
Members of the public tried to assist him but were unfortunately unable to do so.” She confirmed that a search was conducted for Kalen and he was pronounced dead at the scene when his body was found later on that evening. Coroner Professor Alan Walsh adjourned the inquest until September 19. Kalen’s death came during a heatwave at in July. Following the incident friends posted tributes for Kalen on Facebook.
