An inquest has opened into the death of an 18-year-old man who died after being stabbed in Bury town centre 11 days ago. Student Abdikarim Abdalla Ahmed was rushed to hospital following an incident on March 11 on Market Street and died later that day at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Assistant coroner for Manchester North Michael Salt opened inquest proceedings at Rochdale. Coroner's officer Kathy Dixon described how Abdimarim, of Willows Lane, Bolton, went to Bury with friends and was involved in an 'altercation' with another group of males which resulted in him being stabbed in the chest.

A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged with murder and has appeared at Manchester City Magistrates' Court on March 14 before being remanded in custody.
