A walker with a head injury was rescued by the Coastguard and Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) on Arran yesterday (Tuesday, January 29).
Emergency services were called shortly before 11am after the incident which occurred on the boardwalk south of Cordon.Arran Coastguard Rescue Team and Arran RNLI were deployed to rescue the walker due to the “nature of the terrain” around the boardwalk.Once assessed, the walker was stretchered onto the lifeboat and transferred to an awaiting ambulance at Lamlash pier.A spokesperson for the Arran Coastguard Rescue Team said: “The team were tasked by Belfast Coastguard just before 11am this morning to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service with the extraction of a casualty from the coastal path between Cordon and the fish farm.“Due to the location of the casualty and the nature of the terrain, Arran RNLI were also tasked by Belfast. "Once the casualty was assessed the Coastguard Rescue Officers and RNLI crew packaged the patient and transferred them to the lifeboat - a task which requires close teamwork.
The patient was then evacuated to the slipway at Lamlash where they were handed into the care of the paramedics.“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.“Please remember in an emergency at the coast call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
The staff at the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre who will answer the call can then gather the information and task the required resources such as the lifeboat and Coastguard team and can also inform the other emergency services such as ambulance and police.”The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all the local news in your area – plus features, football news and the latest on the coronavirus crisis – at your fingertips 24/7.The
