Katcy Stephan Indie Rights has acquired worldwide distribution rights to “Plight,” an indie-thriller written, directed and produced by MJ Alhabeeb Jr.
in his feature film debut. The film will be released theatrically and on digital platforms this June. Set in the gritty heart of Braddock, Penn., known as Steeltown, U.S.A., “Plight” follows a grieving father and a Ukrainian immigrant who forge an unexpected alliance in their search for justice after a tragic hit-and-run upends their lives.
The film made its world premiere as the Showcase Selection at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival and went on to win Best Picture at four additional festivals.
Alhabeeb Jr. was also awarded Best Director at the Orlando Film Festival. “Plight explores themes close to my heart — the power of family, and the lengths we go to protect and honor our loved ones,” says Alhabeeb Jr. “I’m drawn to stories that challenge our moral compass, especially when faced with impossible choices.” The deal was negotiated by Indie Rights CEO Linda Nelson and MJ Alhabeeb Jr.
