Unhappy council chiefs have refused to grant a premises licence to an iconic Saltcoats pub because they did not display their site notice properly. And a resident who lived above the pub had complained about excessive noise coming from the premises, with concerns also voiced about staff using an emergency exit which is right next to access to the flats.Licence holder Sean Conaghan of the Windy Ha in Bradshaw Street had applied for a premises licence after taking over the pub earlier in the year and has been allowed occasional licences since then.Objector Alina Cincan said the sign was not visible from outside and you had to go inside the pub to see it clearly - and she produced photographic evidence of that.Mr Conaghan said: “It was displayed on a window high up and also on the front door of the premises.

It could be seen from 10am until midnight or 1am when we closed.”The licence holder said the pub was the oldest in town and he was helping bring entertainment to the area.

He also employed an established team.He added: “We have also started a meal service, delivering to isolated people and bringing the community together.

We pushed more towards the karaoke plus bar and kitchen and have a different kind of custom, an older crowd are in now, business has been really good.
