Chef Floyd Cardoz, of Bombay Canteen fame, has died aged 59 after contracting coronavirus. He had previously checked into hospital suffering symptoms, and later tested positive for Covid-19.
His family confirmed his death on Wednesday, according to Scroll, with the Mumbai-raised chef having been in India until 8 March before heading to New York.
He was the co-owner of two popular restaurants in Mumbai – the Bombay Canteen and O Pedro and had launched his third venture, the Bombay Sweet Shop.
After being admitted to hospital, The Hunger Inc, the company that runs the restaurants, put out a statement confirming Cordez had tested positive for the virus in New York.
