A Thai boxing expert who has trained thousands of vulnerable people to defend themselves against bullies, as well as champions in the sport, is in a race against time to find a new home for his soon-to-be bulldozed gym.

Sandy Holt has been given six months to find alternative accommodation for his 2,500 ft gym because the current Bolton Thai Boxing Club will be demolished to make way for new development of the Church Wharf area of the town.

The death knell for the crumbling building which has housed Sandy's gym for 37 years sounded when Bolton council issued him with a compulsory purchase order.
