Millions of us are looking forward to a spectacular historic event with the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday. But for some royal fans, it will be the second time they’ve seen a coronation.

Sharing their stories and photos of Queen Elizabeth II’s crowning on 2 June 1953, they recall the parties, pomp and circumstance of the day, from the fancy frocks to the people in picnic chairs on The Mall in London.

Many cite the coronation as their first example of must-see TV, with some buying black and white sets especially to watch the spectacle.
