Niall Tyrrell was a doting dad-of-two, fondly described as the 'life and soul of the party' by his family. A fun-loving and selfless man, who was outgoing, 'always putting others first' and would 'do anything for anyone'.

He was just 28-years-old when he took his own life in his locked bedroom at a psychiatric hospital. He was on 15-minute observations at the time at Park House, run by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH).

He had struggled with bouts of depression and anxiety for a number of years, but the loss of his dad to Covid-19 and financial struggles had compounded and caused his mental health to worsen, leading to what his mum described as a catastrophic 'mental breakdown' in 2020. An inquest into his death heard he was on constant observations at the time. But after managing to escape from the locked unit, after falsely telling staff his mum was outside waiting for him despite her warnings, and also being found days later on a bridge, the decision was made for Niall to be moved to a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), called the Juniper Ward, at the hospital.
