A bowl of soup on a freezing cold day can be just the ticket for those of us who are feeling a little under the weather. There is one recipe the "world's longest living family" swear by and it even has a doctor's seal of approval.

Many times we've heard of the 'miracle' cure to living longer and protecting our body - but one recipe that has stood the test of time is minestrone soup. This dish has been enjoyed for decades, in particular by the Melis family - who have the Guinness World Record title for the highest combined age for nine living siblings.

They were awarded this in 2012 when their total age was 861 years and the oldest sibling reached age 109.The family ate this soup and some bread plus a glass of red wine for lunch every single day.

A doctor has praised the recipe and said it has the qualities to lower cholesterol, improve gut health, support weight management, and lower an individual's cancer risk.Dr Tim Tiutan said on TikTok: "This amazing plant-based soup is full of vitamins and minerals, fiber, and more."This is where Mirror reporter Lucy Marshall said 'sign me up' and decided to make the soup from scratch.
