EXCLUSIVE: Canadian comedy Run the Burbs has been picked up by Hulu for its second window in the U.S. Fifth Season struck the deal with the streamer for the comedy from Kim’s Convenience star Andrew Phung, with the first two seasons set to drop on Hulu on New Year’s Eve, a few days before the third launches on Canada’s CBC.
Produced by Pier 21 Films, Run the Burbs stars Phung at the center of a Vietnamese/South Asian-Canadian family. He plays a stay-at-home dad with an entrepreneur wife and two kids, who each take a different approach to living life to the fullest in the suburbs, changing the way the audience thinks about family values and suburban life.
Alongside Phung, the series stars a number of established and emerging comedians including YouTuber Julie Nolke, radio host Ali Hassan and Baroness von Sketch Show co-creator and star Aurora Browne.
The deal is second window and is unrelated to The CW‘s acquisition of Run the Burbsover the summer. The comedy was, however, pulled a few weeks ago from The CW linear but remains on its app and website.
