Huge blaze breaks out in Edinburgh with black smoke seen for miles

A huge blaze has broken out at a council depot in Edinburgh with thick black smoke visible from miles away. Hero firefighters raced to Russel Road in the west of the city just after 1pm on August 18 after receiving reports of a blaze.

Shocking images taken from the nearby Western Approach Road show huge clouds of smoke billowing into the air as the building is engulfed by flames.

There are three fire engines at the scene and no reported casualties.A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire Service confirmed they were alerted to the blaze at the City of Edinburgh Council depot on Russel Road at around 13.00 and sent three appliances to the scene where they remain in attendance.The City of Edinburgh Council has been approached for comment.
