The 22-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Whites after moving from Dutch side Feyenoord. In the second half of last season, the defender was out on loan in League One at near neighbours Wigan.
He turned out 22 times for the Latics and found the back of the net once as Leam Richardson's side avoided relegation and survived in the third tier of English football.
