Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is the 45th and current president of the United States. Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality. Trump was born and raised in the New York City borough of Queens, and received a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School. He took charge of his family's real-estate business in 1971, renamed it The Trump Organization, and expanded its operations from Queens and Brooklyn into Manhattan.
The company built or renovated skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. Trump later started various side ventures, mostly by licensing his name. He owned the Miss Universe and Miss USA beauty pageants from 1996 to 2015, and produced and hosted The Apprentice, a reality television show, from 2003 to 2015. Forbes estimates his net worth to be $3.1 billion.
Sasha Urban editorThree years and one administration later, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is back in Washington, D.C., for the first time since 2019.
This year’s event, headlined by “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah, will take place on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. The program will air live and uninterrupted on C-SPAN, as well as C-SPAN.org and the C-SPAN Now App.Hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association, the dinner has been a mainstay of the press corps since its founding in 1914.
Presidents have traditionally attended the dinner at least once during their term — and President Joe Biden is expected this year — but former President Donald Trump was notably absent from the dinners held in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
The dinner was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event made a splash in 2018 with host Michelle Wolf, whose raunchy jokes about the Trump administration and others led to both praise and backlash, notably from Trump himself, who swore he wouldn’t let a comedian host the dinner again. However, under the Biden administration, that no longer seems to be the case.
