How Spencer Matthews’ brother Michael disappeared on Everest amid search for his late brother

Streaming site Disney Plus is about to launch a brand new documentary that follows former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews as he heads to Mount Everest in Nepal.

Spencer, 34, has retraced the steps of his late brother, who disappeared on an expedition to the site more than 20 years ago.

Michael Matthews lost his life descending the summit of Mount Everest in May 1999, when he was just 22 years old. He vanished just three hours after reaching the mountain’s peak and his body has never been recovered or found, leaving his two brothers and parents struggling to find closure over his death.

Michael lost his life in Everest’s notorious “death zone” where he and his team were hit by ferocious gales and heavy snowfall.
