Spanish royal family.Journalist Jaime Peñafiel, 91, released a new book, titled “Letizia’s Silences,” about Queen Letizia’s alleged infidelity with her ex-brother-in-law Jaime del Burgo.According to Peñafiel, Letizia, 51, and King Felipe, 56, had a rocky relationship in the years before the alleged affair began.
When they started dating in the early 2000s, Letizia would “test” her husband’s feelings for her by frequently traveling, Peñafiel wrote in his book, per the Daily Mail.
The author claimed that Letizia flew to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 2002 for the Ibero-American Summit to put the king’s intentions “to the test.”Letizia allegedly went to Costa Rica just weeks later to similarly get a rise out of Felipe. “It was a strategy, because that absence was a real torment for the very much in love Felipe, who conceived distance as the worst of evils, coming to understand [Spanish poet] Lope de Vega when he said that ‘the beginning of absence is like the end of life,’ ” Peñafiel wrote.Eventually, Letizia realized Felipe had “total love” for her and she returned to Spain “bossy and manipulative,” per the book.Letizia and Felipe married in 2004.
They have two daughters, Princess Leonor, 18, and Princess Sofia, 17.In his book, Peñafiel claimed that Felipe knew about Letizia’s alleged affair with del Burgo “in real time” because of her bodyguards.
