Bolton council has reined back on plans to bring in new charges, including for some bin collections, as part of its budget proposals.
With he town hall is under huge pressure to balance the books, the Labour-run authority said it had an improved financial position following ‘a more generous government settlement than anticipated’.
This includes a children’s social care prevention grant of £2.1m and a recovery grant of £9.2m. Despite the settlement, the council plans to use £17.4m of its cash reserves to balance the budget over the next two years.
The budget proposals include an increase in council tax and other changes which will hit residents in the pocket. Council tax is set to rise by five per cent, which would add £119 to yearly bills for a typical Band D household.
