If you’ve ever come across the term human papillomavirus, or HPV as it’s more commonly known, chances are it’s because you, or someone you know, has had the HPV vaccine.
Referring to a common group of viruses, there are more than 100 different types of HPV and though it doesn't cause problems for most people, in some instances it can cause genital warts or cancer.
But despite infecting around eight in ten people at some point in their lives, HPV isn’t very well understood by Brits, according to LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor.
In a survey of 1,000 participants in the UK, the results uncovered some worrying findings.Though 89 percent of people reported hearing of HPV, a staggering 71 percent admitted that they didn’t know what impact it had.
