Anyone who eats eggs has been urged not to throw their shells away as there is a clever, little-known use for them. A gardening expert has shared a clever tip that uses eggshells to supercharge the growth of your plants and flowers.
Laura, who heads the Young Growers Club aimed at inspiring children to grow their own produce, took to TikTok to share this unknown tactic. "This eggshell fertiliser is so easy, and cheap to make," she noted in her video caption. "You basically need to cook the eggshells to remove any water and contaminants, crush them, put them in a jar with organic apple cider vinegar and then let the magic happen." In the opening scene of her video, Laura shows off the final product: "I'll use this during the growing season to fertilise my plants - during the growing season it'll provide calcium." She proceeds to illustrate her full method with a dozen eggs, baking them for 15 minutes at 160C.
The important thing, Laura insists, is to watch the oven vigilantly to prevent them from burning. Once baked, they should be removed from the oven and broken up with caution.
Laura advises swaddling them in a cloth and softly battering them with a rolling pin, reports Devon Live. Laura then transfers the smashed eggshells into a diminutive jar till it’s about one-tenth filled.
