A Cheshire hotel worker stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from guests in a “serious breach of trust”. Brian Riley targeted two victims staying at the Cottons Hotel and Spa in Knutsford in November last year.
The guests had been out on coach trips at the time. The hotel employee crept into one room and stole opal earrings and a pendant worth £2,000.

He admitted to disposing of the items after learning the thefts were being investigated. He later recovered the opal earrings and pendant, purchased in 1984 and 2004 in Australia, and handed them into a police station.
