There was horror on the streets of Oldham as a gunman opened fire on a taxi in broad daylight. A man was seriously injured in the suspected drive-by shooting in Shaw Road, in the Derker area of the town, at about 12.15pm today (Thursday).
The victim was getting out of a taxi when he was blasted by a gunman on a motorbike, police said. The suspect then fled the scene while the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Armed police swooped on the scene, less than a mile from Oldham town centre, and arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the shooting.
An air ambulance was seen landing on playing fields while Shaw Road and several surrounding streets were taped off as officers launched an investigation into the shooting.
