Horizon Forbidden West is only second biggest PS5 launch so far - Games charts 19 February
msn.comSpider-Man: Miles Morales. Despite the increase in userbase over the last year, Horizon Forbidden West was unable to beat the Marvel launch game and also ended up only the second biggest launch of the year, after Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
That doesn’t necessarily mean sales have been a disappointment though, as while they’re down 35% on 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn the increase in the proportion of games being sold digitally since then almost certainly means overall sales were higher than the original, with most recent sequels seeing a much larger drop from their previous entry.
Although hardware sales have obviously been supply constrained for the PlayStation 5 it’s userbase is now thought to be in excess of 17 million worldwide, after just over 15 months.
A total of 68% of boxed sales were for the PlayStation 5 version, with most cross-gen releases now seeing only a minority of sales on the PlayStation 4.
