Homeless tents appear at door of Salford city council

Four tents appeared near the entrance of Salford’s town hall in apparent protest by homeless people. The tents appeared yesterday morning (Thursday December 21) as the city planning and transportation regulatory panel was taking place.

No-one was in the tents when the Local Democracy Reporting Service investigated. Salford city mayor Paul Dennett responded by saying: “Salford is responding to a national housing and homelessness crisis. “In the last few weeks there have been significant increases in homelessness presentations and tragically people having no alternative, being forced to sleep ‘rough’ on our streets.” And he blamed delays in the implementation of the Renter’s Reform Bill for adding further ‘insult to injury’for holding up local housing allowance (LHA) increases, for making the problem worse.
