Glasgow flat next to her malnourished baby. Mercy Baguma’s body was discovered by police on August 22, in a flat in Govan, after she had been out of touch with friends since August 18.
Her death is being treated as unexplained. The mum, in her thirties, was originally from Uganda and had lost her job after her limited leave to remain expired and she was no longer allowed to work.
Human rights organisation Positive Action in Housing (PAIH) said Mercy, a refugee, had been living in “extreme poverty” and had approached the charity for help on August 11.
Her death has promoted calls for a public inquiry into the Home Office’s treatment of refugees and asylum seekers in Glasgow.
