Apple is turning the story of the Hollywood con queen into a documentary series. The streamer is launching Hollywood Con Queen, which tells the story of a scam that targeted the likes of Kathleen Kennedy, Sherry Lansing, Amy Pascal, Wendi Deng Murdoch and Stacey Snider, on May 8.
The series comes from Tiger King and Fyre filmmaker Chris Smith and his production company Library Films. It tells the story of an international con artist impersonating the industry’s most powerful women.
The scam involved the con artist approaching production staff, claiming to be an executive or senior figure in the industry, to work on a project in Indonesia.
In 2020, it emerged that the FBI and Department of Justice had arrested a suspect in Manchester, UK. The series is based on the reporting of Scott Johnson, who wrote a book – Hollywood Con Queen: The Hunt for an Evil Genius.
