Holidaymakers heading to Spain issued 'extreme' weather warning for this weekend

Holidaymakers have been warned of soaring temperatures across Spain over this weekend. AEMET, which is the country’s official national forecaster, has issued a number of yellow weather alerts from Thursday through to Saturday.

Temperatures today could reach into the late 30s across southern and central areas of the country.Amber alerts have been issued on the Friday, with the thermostat potentially climbing higher in parts of southern Spain as forecasters anticipating 40C around the likes of Seville.Saturday is expected to be much of the same across the south and central Spain - with yellow warnings also issued in the north east of the country that day.A spokesperson for AEMET said yesterday: “Very high temperatures will exceed 35C in many parts of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.“It may reach 40C to 42C in parts of the south and Ebro, with very warm nights.“It will be a truly unusual episode of the time.”They continued: “The warm episode will be very unusual for mid-May.” Around 100,000 Rangers fans descended on Seville - which is at the centre of this heatwave warning - over the past few days for its Europa League final clash against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Temperatures reached up to the mid to late 30s as supporters partied for hours prior to kick off at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan at 9pm local time last night.

Rangers were forced to contact UEFA over a lack of water available at the kiosks at the ground as fans continued to bake in the heat during the fixture.
