HM Revenue and Customs has issued a warning to seasonal workers who may be at risk of not being paid the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage.
Many people may be working on short-term contracts over the festive season in places such as restaurants, hotels, and shops.
HMRC has urged such workers to remember that they are entitled to minimum rates. As such, the government department said all workers should closely check their pay to ensure they're receiving the correct amount for the hours they work, including training and extra shifts. People should check their hourly rate and look out for any deductions or unpaid working time. It could take them below the minimum wage. "HMRC looks into every minimum wage complaint, so if you think you are being short-changed you should get in touch.
