Hillwalker rescued after 'hearing ankle snap' while up Scots mountain

A hillwalker has been rescued after 'hearing his ankle snap' while up a mountain in the Borders. Emergency services raced to the scene after the man became injured on the Cheviot Hills as darkness began to fall on Saturday night.

The experienced walker was well prepared and when he turned his ankle and heard the snap he quickly called police and asked for mountain rescue.The team were deployed immediately in Land Rover Defenders and an all-terrain vehicle.

The hillwalker's location was revealed using PhoneFind technology and he was found to be high in the Cheviots, north of Windy Gyle.

Pictures shared by the Border Search Unit team showed the casualty being assessed and packaged in the dark. Pain relief was then administered prior to the journey back down to the valley before he was rushed to hospital for treatment.
