Highway Code parking rule that could see drivers fined £100

Back in January, there were a number of important changes made to the Highway Code in a bid to make roads safer for more vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists.It means that you may need to familiarise yourself with updated driving rules, including some that indicate where you can or cannot park.
Rules 238 to 252 in the Code concern waiting and parking, reports The Express. One rule states that you should not park near a school entrance, at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank with parking in front of an entrance to a property also in breach.Leaving your car in any of these areas could land you with a £100 fine if spotted.The rules also state that you should not stop or park your car where a kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles or in an area where it would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities.
However, the Code states that drivers can temporarily stop in these places if they are forced to due to stationary traffic. Not all Highway Codes are legally binding and there is a difference between “must not” and “do not”.Rule 243 comes under the latter and stipulates people should not stop unless forced to do so by stationary traffic.
