Highlander icon Christopher Lambert has opened up on the cult movie which catapulted him to stardom and his love for Scotland, where the film was shot and set.The French actor, who turns 67 tomorrow, had already played Tarzan in the movie Greystroke but it is his 1986 role as fictional Highland hero Connor MacLeod for which he is best known.

And although it propelled him to Hollywood hunk status, he is no pretentious movie star.He has shot dozens of films and worked with the likes of George Clooney and WWII but he maintains his humilty.

This certainly makes him well-suited to a Scottish role, given our famed self-deprication, even if his Highlander accent wasn't quite on point.Speaking in 2018, Christopher said: "I haven't changed since I was a kid.

It's a matter of not thinking you are special because you've been on a magazine cover, on TV or in a film. When I act, I become someone else but they call, 'Cut!' and I am who I am."Christopher was cast as MacLeod - an immortal warrior battling his way through Scottish history - when director Russell Mulcahy saw him in a magazine and knew he was the man for the lead role.
