High school in Manchester closes for deep clean after 18 Covid cases in just five days

After 18 confirmed cases among pupils at Burnage Academy for Boys in the last five days, bosses at the school say they took the 'dreadful decision' to close in attempt to 'break the transmission'.

With less than 100 of the 700 students left on site and 20 per cent of the workforce also isolating, deputy headteacher Mathew Rogers said they had to do something about the 'exponential growth'.
