Hero Stagecoach driver races back to burning bus to check for passengers

A heroic bus driver ran back to her Stagecoach vehicle after it burst into flames to check there were no passengers on board.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene at Lime Street Station in Liverpool last night after reports of a blaze aboard a double-decker.Three fire engines arrived at the scene at around 6.30pm, with crews finding the vehicle well alight and thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.

Cops believe the inferno may have been started deliberately.The coach had been evacuated but the driver went back to the flaming vehicle to ensure all passengers had got off safely, the Liverpool Echo reports.A man was working on the till in a nearby corner shop when he spotted a fire had started at the back seats on the top deck of the bus.

He said: "I saw people all running away and running off and around the bus. The flames slowly came forwards on the top deck and there was smoke everywhere."The lady who was driving the bus ran back and did one last check over the bus before carrying something away with her.
