Helen Mirren has paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The royal, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, passed away at her Balmoral residence in Scotland with her family by her side on Thursday afternoon.

She was 96. Following the sad news, Helen took to Twitter to remember the head of state, whom she won an Oscar for portraying in the 2006 film The Queen. “I am proud to be an Elizabethan.

We mourn a woman, who, with or without the crown, was the epitome of nobility,” she wrote alongside a portrait of the monarch.

A number of other stars have also offered tributes. Victoria Beckham noted The Queen will be remembered for her “steadfast loyalty and service”, while Kris Jenner called her “one of the greatest leaders our world has ever seen”.
