Scarves, thermometers and heated blankets are being given out to vulnerable people struggling with the soaring costs of energy bills as the cold snap continues in the UK. ‘Warm Packs’ have been delivered to residents across Stockport to help 'keep everyone warm and well this winter' as rising inflation and Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues to see energy prices rise.

Stockport council announced that along with Age UK, Stockport Homes and Disability Stockport, 1,200 of the packs have been delivered to the most vulnerable in the borough, with temperatures in recent days plummeting below freezing. Jack Proverbs, from Bredbury, said: "This electric blanket will save me money on my electricity bills while we wait for the summer to come.” Among the items inside the packs are scarves, gloves, socks and thermometers, with some including heated blankets.

The packs also contain guidance on cost of living support and further advice on where to find warm spaces and prepayment meter guidance.

Some of the warm packs have also been funded by Octopus Energy and IPL Global. Councillor Malcolm Allan, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources at Stockport Council said: "We know that the cost of living crisis has hit many of our residents hard, so we have been working through our partners to give support to everyone who needs it."
