Alice has previously mentioned that season four would focus on the sixth book, which she is currently still working on.
In February, Alice gave an update on the status of the possibility of a renewal, and now, producer Patrick Walters is sharing another update and notes they are working on it. Keep reading to find out more… While appearing at Series Mania in France this week, Patrick said that “there are a lot of moving parts” in getting season four off the ground, and “we are working hard on it.” However, there is no other update aside from that.
He also shared that he’s seen funding challenges over “seasons and seasons with Heartstopper” that have gotten worse, along with “production complexities of making and commissioning TV in this moment.” “The challenge is what you need to do in this moment is to pitch something that feels specific and there is precedent for it and it is moving the conversation on,” Patrick said. “But that is a risk.
