A newborn baby was found unresponsive in his parents' bed after his mum fell asleep next to him, an inquest has heard. Abel Jaxx Scotting was born at Burnley Hospital on August 13 last year having been delivered by forceps, LancsLive reports.

His mum Joanne Duxbury took him home a few days later where Abel fed well and met his first developmental milestones, an inquest heard.

On the evening of September 29 Joanne and Abel's dad, Jonathan Scotting, went to a pub in Blackburn where they met a group of friends for drinks.

They returned home later with their baby - and after eating a takeaway and feeding Abel, Joanne and Jonathan took him into their bed, so they could keep an eye on him after feeding him.
