Harry Potter fans have flooded social media with tributes to late Dumbledore star Sir Michael Gambon/ A statement issued by his publicist said the Irish actor died peacefully in hospital aged 82.
On behalf of his wife Lady Gambon and son Fergus Gambon, publicist Clair Dobbs said: "We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon.
Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. "We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love." Gambon first appeared in the blockbuster franchise in the third Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
He went on to play as Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts school, in all the films that followed, playing as the iconic wizard in six of the eight flicks.
