He’s also best known for playing Albus Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” movie franchise. He took over as the headmaster of Hogwarts following the death of original actor, Richard Harris. (Harris died at age 72 in 2002.)Gambon has also done stage work.
He’s worked on Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge,” which earned him an Olivier award for his performance as Brooklyn longshoreman Eddie Carbone.
He’s also starred in “The Life of Galileo” at the National Theatre in 1980 and David Hare’s “Skylight,” which earned him a Tony award nomination in the mid-90s.On the small screen, the Irish-English actor appeared in Dennis Potter’s musical “The Singing Detective” and a TV version of Tony Kushner’s “Angels in America.”His other accomplishments include winning four BAFTAs and two RTS Awards..
