Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been slammed for "looking inwards" with their "curious" £3 million deal to secure the rights to a book whose characters have 'obvious parallels' with themselves, according to a royal author.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to have splashed the cash on Meet Me At The Lake written by Carley Fortune, which is a love story set in Canada about a couple who met in their 30s and relates back to the ages the couple first met at.And even more obvious hints back to their own lives are the themes present in the book which include child trauma over the loss of a parent in a car crash, as well as struggles with mental health.Prince Harry sadly lost his mother Princess Diana when he was just 12 after she was killed in a tragic car crash in Paris in 1997.The couple's agreement will see the book adapted into a film for Netflix, with whom Meghan and Harry have a longstanding agreement worth a reported £80m, the Express reports.The Sussexes have also been criticised for their 'insulting' deal with the streaming giant, which is one of the 'worst offenders of actor's rights' according to an American PR expert.
Royal author and the BBC's former royal correspondent Jennie Bond told OK magazine: "I can understand that Harry and Meghan have to come up with content to fulfil their Netflix contract, and I think everyone will be pleased that they are moving away from bashing the Royal Family."But this does seem rather a curious choice of book, with some obvious parallels with their own lives."Somehow, it seems they just can’t get away from looking inwards, and inviting comparisons with what they have gone through."She questioned: "I also wonder what qualifications they think they have to become
