If there is one person besides Hamilton Leithauser who deserves credit for the direction of his new album -- a collection of musical short stories called The Loves of Your Life, it’s the stranger that he encountered one morning on the 9 a.m.
cross-sound ferry between New London, Conn. and Orient Point, NY.“I was with my daughters, and I met this odd fellow,” Leithauser recalls. “He was sitting there at the bar, enjoying the ride, having a drink in the early morning – not messy, sort of put-together – and he just came up and started talking to me and my girls.”The conversation wasn’t particularly interesting, but after Leithauser and his daughters reached their destination, he couldn’t stop thinking about the guy.
