Hamilton Accies Women boss hails Eryn Brown's stunning strike in win over Gartcairn

Robert Watson hailed Eryn Brown’s goal of the season contender in Hamilton Accies Women’s win over Gartcairn and says it is unlikely to be topped this season.The midfielder showed some exquisite skill inside the box to bamboozle her marker with a cheeky dink before firing a volley past the helpless Gartcairn goalkeeper in Sunday’s 2-0 win at New Douglas Park, before Melissa Reid clinched the win.It maintains Hamilton’s unbeaten start to the SWPL2 campaign and helped them open up a five-point gap at the summit from nearest rivals Kilmarnock.And Watson reckons the stunning strike will take some beating.

He said: “At the time, I thought it was an exceptional bit of skill from Eryn and a great volley.“It is even better when you see it back on the footage, to not only bring it out of the air and dink it over the defender, but to then take it on the full volley and swerve it away from the goalkeeper, it was a magnificent strike.“You won’t see too many better goals than that across the country this season.”On the result, he added: “It was important to get a win and continue our good run of form.“Gartcairn were probably a number of people’s pre-season favourites and to have such a comfortable 2-0 win over them at home - while maybe not being at our best - was pleasing.“It was a non-fussy win, which is something we haven’t been particularly great at.”Accies went into the game knowing they could open up a gap at the top of the table and after pulling it off, Watson warned his players they must keep their feet on the ground.He added: “We knew Kilmarnock had beaten Livingston to go second when we went to kick our game off.“We put pressure on ourselves to stay top of the table, no matter what happens, come the end of the day, but to
