There is nothing more appealing than taking a hot, relaxing bath. Whether you enjoy a candlelit soak paired with calming music, or haul in your screen of choice for a bit of Netflix (only when positioned safely of course), melting into the bubbles allows you forget all the worries of the world, if only for a short time.

But choosing the tub over the shower leaves many of us with a problem; what if you need to wash your hair? At this point you’ve been bathing for some time, possibly mixed with a glug of bubble bath, some magnesium salts or a drop of essential oil.

So, can you use the same water to clean your curls? Well according to hair care experts, washing your hair in the bath is a big no no.Adam Jones, of Live True London salons, said: “You should not wash your hair in the bath.“If you use products like bath soaks or bubble bath, this will expose your hair to and soak it in fragranced and coloured water, which can dry your hair out, leach it of colour and cause damage."Even if you don’t use soaks or salts in your bath, it’s not great to soak your strands for a long time"Jones added: “Soaking your hair in water can expand the follicle and leave it open and more vulnerable to tangling and damage.”Clairol ambassador and hair stylist Michael Douglas warned: “Washing your hair in the bath isn’t great for getting your hair clean, due to the water already being slightly dirty.”Douglas also said that washing in bath water will“require you to use more product to get it clean, and might also leave your hair more greasy, therefore making it harder to style”.Did you know you can keep up to date with the latest news by signing up to our daily newsletter? We send a morning and lunchtime newsletter covering the latest headlines
