Justin Timberlake

Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981), occasionally known by his initials JT, is an American singer, songwriter, actor, dancer, and record producer.

Raised in Tennessee, he appeared on the television shows Star Search and The All-New Mickey Mouse Club as a child. In the late 1990s, Timberlake rose to prominence as one of the two lead vocalists and youngest member of NSYNC, which eventually became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.

Timberlake began to adopt a more mature image as an artist with the release of his debut solo album, the R&B-focused Justified (2002), which yielded the successful singles "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body", and earned his first two Grammy Awards.

Bella Poarch successfully leveraged looking into a phone camera and making faces on TikTok into a successful pop music career.

But there's no point in hating on the medium: we had this debate decades ago when the kids variety show The All-New Mickey Mouse Club launched the career Britney Spears, and the pop pantheon is, for the most part, a better place for it (Justin Timberlake was another cast member on that show, but on balance, I think that ruining Janet Jackson's career hurt pop music more than his music helped).

With that said: "No Man's Land," a Grimes-featuring song from Poarch's new EP Dolls, feels more designed for virality on TikTok than as a pop hit on its own merits.

The beat's xylophone-driven melody is quite grating, and Poarch's vocal performance doesn't fully embrace her winking Black Widow persona.
