Surge testing is taking place in the town due to concerns over a dramatic rise in cases. In the week to May 5 Bolton saw a 91 per cent in the number of people testing positive.
The town now has an infection rate of 120.3 cases per 100,000 people, the second highest in the UK. It comes after surge testing began in Bolton on Wednesday after cases of both the South Africa and India variants were discovered.
Bolton is one of five boroughs in Greater Manchester where cases have increased in the week to May 5, the latest Public Health England figures show.
