A Greater Manchester Police inspector took up a job working in security at the 2022 football World Cup in Qatar while claiming to be on a career break from the force.
Police watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said today Tariq Butt had 'shown a complete disregard for the rules and acted dishonestly for his own personal gain'.
A disciplinary panel ruled he would have been dismissed had he not already resigned. His name has been added to the Royal College of Policing's Barred List, preventing him from working in policing ever again.
The IOPC said a three-day organised by GMP, which concluded on Thursday, found Mr Butt, who GMP said was based at its Sedgley Park training complex, had 'breached the standards of behaviour for discreditable conduct, confidentiality, honesty and integrity and orders and instructions'.
