Greater Manchester Police has been using hire cars because of the state of its existing fleet, a senior officer has admitted.
The beleaguered force, which is currently in special measures and on an urgent drive to improve its performance, has had to send response officers out to crimes using lease cars as GMP ‘has not had the police vehicles to get out to jobs’, said Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes.
Separately one officer told the M.E.N. of a ‘scramble’ to get vehicles, with two thirds of the cars on their division off the road at one point a couple of months ago.
