Greater Manchester chef shows how he made three weeks worth of 'school meals' for just £20 - with recipes and shopping list

Bolton chef decided to cook up some affordable 'school dinners' and share his recipes, following the controversy about 'woefully inadequate' food parcels in parts of Greater Manchester.

Gareth Mason, who recently went viral for his 'three-tier' fish, chips and mushy peas pie, decided to visit Aldi and see how many ingredients he could buy for £20.

He estimates that the ingredients would have cooked up enough dinners to feed a school child for three weeks, with some of the dishes costing as little as 42p.

Gareth, who is also a father-of-one, told Manchester Evening News: "It's been all over the media and originally I wanted to do it with £15 because that's how much the weekly vouchers are but I think it would have made the meals a bit more.
