Greater Manchester celebrated bonfire night early with a bang

The skies across Greater Manchester were lit up last night as Mancunians celebrated bonfire night early. Thousands attended organised events across the the region while others enjoyed their own pyrotechnic displays at home on Saturday night, ahead of bonfire night proper tonight (Sunday).

Pictures by our photographer show people enjoying a fantastic display at Whalley Range Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club in south Manchester.

today Many more organised events are due to take place on Sunday night although other events enjoyed in years gone by - like the ones in Heaton Park and Platt Fields - won't be taking place after council bosses announced the cancellation Bonfire Night displays in Manchester due to the rising costs.
