A Scottish marine expert has told of her horror as she watched an orca killing and eating a great white shark. Shocking footage has been released of the young killer whale devouring its rival predator in under two minutes off the coast of Mossel Bay in South Africa.Orcas have been known to hunt sharks, dolphins and even whales before, but this is believed to be the first time one has killed a great white all by itself.
The killer whale, known as Starboard, was even seen swimming away from the bloodbath with the shark's liver in its mouth.Esther Jacobs, of Keep Fin Alive, witnessed the savage and speedy attack in near-disbelief.
The shark conservationist, originally from Scotland but now living in South Africa, spoke to Sky News about the incident. She said: "I saw Starboard approaching the great white from behind and my stomach dropped.
It was actually then devastating to see Starboard thrust forward and grab the shark in its jaws."I couldn't believe how quick it was.
